Countdown to Bound For Glory

This Saturday night, Impact Wrestling presents its biggest show of the year, Bound For Glory. It’s hard to believe that the first one took place 16 years ago to the date – my, how time flies. Alhough Impact sometimes flies under the radar, this one looks good on paper, and you should definitely consider checking it out. As a bonus, you’ll be able to see how we did with our predictions below.

Christian Cage (c) vs. Josh Alexander – Impact World Championship match

Prediction
After months of Impact’s title being held by someone from AEW – first Kenny Omega, and now Christian – it’s time for the gold to come back home. Josh Alexander’s journey to this match has been one of wrestling’s best-told stories over the past year, and this match should be the fitting conclusion to the chapter. It may be temptint to have this one be cluttered up with interference from Omega and the Elite, and have them cost Christian the match, but hopefully they refrain from that. Alexander deserves a clean, controversy-free win here, and hopefully he gets it. Winner: Josh Alexander

Becky Lynch (c) vs. Bianca Belair vs. Sasha Banks – SmackDown Women’s Championship Match

Prediction
From the early days of its Knockouts Division, Impact has presented its women as true equals and main-eventers, and Purrazzo has continued this tradition, delivering some of the company’s best matches of the year. At this point, there isn’t a completely viable contender left for her, so that could be an argument to give the title to Mickie – just to shake things up a little. But at this point, Mickie should be using her name to help create and solidify legends for this era’s future Hall of Famers, and that’s what we think will happen here. Winner: Deonna Purrazzo

Steve Maclin vs. El Phantasmo vs. Trey Miguel – X-Division Championship match

Prediction
Maclin has been booked really strong and seems like he’s really vicious and dangerous. In fact, he’s been booked so strong that it feels like he really should really be in the World Title picture instead of the X-Division. So he won’t win. As good as El Phantasmo has been, he and the other New Japan imports really haven’t been well-introduced to the audience, but rather just kind of thrown into the mix without any background. For a show like this, one would think it would be better to give the title to a known commodity. Miguel, who fits that bill, has struggled to make a big impression since returning to the company. So a win here will help him get back on track. Winner: Trey Miguel

Call Your Shot Gauntlet match

Prediction
With only a handful of entrants having been announced so far – including Chris Sabin who will be entering first, and W. Morrissey who will be the last one in – look for this to be full of other random stars not otherwise booked, and potentially some surprise entrants as well. This seems like a great way to debut Titan (formerly WWE’s Braun Strowman) if he indeed has signed with the company. Him squaring off with Morrissey would certainly be a clash of the Titans (pardon the pun). Winner: Titan

Decay (c) vs. The Iinspiration – Knockouts Tag Team Championship

Prediction
In terms of personalities and characters, could there be two teams any more different than these two? This one should be the most pure fun match on the show, just for the sheer comic aspect of seeing the Iinspiration try to deal with the dark and bizarre mind games of Rosemary and the intimidating power of Rosemary. In the end, though, the newcomers will overcome and mix things up in the Knockouts Division with some new and fresh feuds. Winners: The Iinspiration

Violent By Design vs. Heath and ???

Prediction
The obvious choice for Heath’s mystery partner would seem to be his former best friend Rhino, whose loyalties to VBD have been questioned lately. It would be interesting if they defied expectations, though, and had Heath select someone else – for example, Minauro Suzuki, who they’ve announced will be coming in for the post-PPV tapings, and who it would be neat to see go up against Joe Doering. But the safe bet is they go with the logical story, complete with the storybook ending. Winners: Heath and Rhino

Crazzy Steve vs. Chelsea Green vs. John Skyler vs. Tenille Dashwood vs. Fallah Bahh vs. Jordynne Grace – Six-way match for the Digital Media Championship

Prediction
The format of this one and the competitors involved suggest this will be primarily a comedy match. Crazzy Steve is on a popularity roll lately, so he could have a shot. And Chelsea’s real-life partner Matt Cardona has experience in this kind of title (albeit not a sanctioned one), so possibly that may be a reason to give it to her. But, as the title seems to go hand-in-hand with Tenille’s “influencer” character, and it’s likely that Kaleb will be out there to help her, this one seems to be all about her. Winner: Tenille Dashwood

The Good Brothers (c) vs. FinJuice vs. The Bullet Club – Tag Team Championship Match

Prediction
Impact has always been good about opening the “forbidden door”, but when teams come in without the proper introduction, it doesn’t always lead to the most compelling feud. In this case, all of the teams seem to be merely tourists in the company (even the Good Brothers have been on AEW TV more often than Impact), and Impact fans who may not be familiar with them from other promotions have been given little reason to care about them. Chris Bey now being part of the Bullet Club has changed that a bit, but only marginally. Expect a title change because why not. Winners: The Bullet Club
