NWA POWERRR: The future of The Dealer, Nick Aldis

Courtesy of the NWA

The National Wrestling Alliance is still sifting through the aftermath of the NWA 73 pay-per-view, none more so than the former NWA Heavyweight champion, Nick Aldis, and we will hear more from him later.  But let’s just step Into The Fire, as this is taking place at The Chase in St. Louis, MO.  Your commentators Joe Galli, Tim Storm, and Velvet Sky have the call.

But the nigh start, rightfully so, with May Valentine at The Podium and it’s the new tag team of the Rude Dudes, “That Dude” Jaime Stanley and El Rudo.  In so many words, they are the future of the tag team division, and they’ll keep going all night and they’ll continue to swipe right until their thumbs fall off.

It’s better when Rudo says it, obviously.

Back to commentary and Joe Galli and Tim Storm are joined by the new heavyweight champion,  Trevor Murdoch. Galli mentions that Nick Aldis will be in attendance, and Murdoch is curious to hear what he has to say as well.

But for now, let’s take in your First Match of the night…

NWA Tag Team Tournament:  The End (Parrow/Odinson) vs Jordan Clearwater/Cyon

So…that’s how we’re gonna spell his name going forward?  Well, plus ten points coming up with something that wasn’t “The Masked Man (although Son of The Question Mark ™ was pretty tight, in my humble opinion).  However, the spelling of the name?  It’s one “l” away from “Cylon” and me saying to him, “By your command.”  Or is we add an “a” to Cyon, he could be a wrestler of another color, if you will.  Or…?

Huh?  Oh right, the match.

Well, The End went to pulverizing Clearwater and Cyon from the get go, and they do not let up.  Clearwater gets the worst with OdinSon delivering a belly to belly suplex, plus getting Parrow in a fireman’s carry to a DVD/senton for Parrow to cover for two.  Cyon has been absent until he breaks up a pin attempt by Parrow, and Cyon works over the big man.  Tag back in to Clearwater, and he’s in the driver’s seat.  Cyon and Clearwater work together to isolate him in their corner, thus making sure he is a Parrow in Peril.  Clearwater is doing the work, until Parrow powered up briefly, but Cyon assists with a double suplex, and Clearwater knocks off Odinson from the ring and waves “buh-bye” before Parrow’s clothesline brings the Golden Boy down.  From there, a hot tag from Parrow and OdinSon is a Nordic En Fuego.  The Hell on Earth finisher is absolutely The End for Clearwater, and they advance in the tournament.

Your Winners via Pinfall:  The End

Back to May Valentine, who’s with Hawx Aerie, Luke and PJ Hawx. PJ is fired up to be first father/son tag team in the NWA. They ain’t happy with Colby Corino (or any Corino, for that matter). Daddy Luke says they are the ABC’s and the XYZ’s of professional wrestling, and now I know my ABC’s.  Won’t you come and suplex me?

(Good luck getting that earworm outta your head)

Jeremiah Plunkett vs. Judais (With The Sinister Minister)

This is the NWA POWERRR debut of Judais, and folks, I do love the Titan from Taterville, TN, but this is a squash match.  Let’s not pretend it isn’t, and I won’t recap a squash match.  So use that time to get a good potato vodka going.  I honestly haven’t had a good one to date, so if anyone can recommend a good bottle, I would be happy.  If you can ship it to me in Utah, I would be eternally grateful.  I’ll even offer it to Plunkett, who gets the worst of the match.  A fallaway slam to a Razor’s Edge bomb gets the pin and seals the win.

Your Winner via Pinfall:  Judais

Sinister Minister says he isn’t done and wants Judais to inflict more pain.  Judais is happy to oblige until the Cowboy James Storm comes out and says enough Shetland ponies, and suggest Judais try this Clydesdale.  Minister notes how natty Storm is dressed, and wonders if he’s dressed for a funeral, and Storm coolly answer, like The Man In Black himself, “Maybe I am.”  This looks like the potential of a hard hitting match down the road.

Kyle Davis is at The Podium with Crimson and Jax Dane. Crimson asks Dane if he has something to say, and Dane thinks he came up short…again. Dane goes on to list his accolades and his previous titles held, and Dane wants to add more to the collection. Well, that dog won’t hunt, and Crimson is bothered by NWA 73 and Dane’s continuous crowing.  All he wants to do is to humiliate him. That’s gonna happen next week in the main event.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the reason why I’m a huge fan of revenge.

Tootie Lynn vs Kylie Rae

Since we’re still in St. Louis, there is a big pop for the Little Blue Dragon, and it’s her debut on NWA POWERRR.  Start of the match has some nice chain wrestling, but Kylie’s veteran skills are on display and she’s in control and almost had Tootie in a crossface by juuuuust that much.  Tootie has some skills, too, with a snapmare to a basement dropkick combo for a cover to a two count.  Fans are all behind Tootie Lynn, and match is all Little Blue Dragon, until Kylie backed her to a corner and sucker elbowed Tootie to the side of the head, all the while claiming innocence to the ref that it was a clean break.  Kylie takes Tootie to a variation of an abdominal stretch, and then transitions to a variation of La Atlantidad (popularized by the luchador Atlantis, which is a spinning torture rack) where Tootie then rammed headfirst to the middle turnbuckle.  The crowd is booing “Smiley” Kylie’s antic, but Tootie isn’t out and ever with a hurt arm, goes on the offense and delivers a shotgun kick to Kylie to cover for another two count.  Tootie gets Kylie with an armbar, but Kylie deftly reverses it to a crossface, and Tootie has no choice but to tap.

Your Winner via Submission:  Kylie Rae

Back to the Podium as Kyle Davis is with Black Jeez, Austin Idol, Jordan Clearwater, and the World Television Heavyweight champion, Tyrus.  Simply put, Tyrus is putting the squeeze (literally) on Davis’ noggin to direct the fact he is the best, and Idol has words with then cheap shot Jeez did on Tyrus last week. Jeez says he ran hot, but it was just business.  Davis, mercifully, says time is up and we get the Main Event of the night….

NWA Tag Team Tournament:  Mims/Sal Rinauro (with Danny Deals) vs Slice Boogie/”All Day” Marshe Rockett

Davis announces Mims and Sal’s partnership as “Big Strong Pals.”  Ha!  Classic.  From the bell, Mims/Rockett lockup, but Rockett sends Mims to the ropes and Slice clips his back.  Mims ain’t having it, but Rockett takes advantage of the distraction.  But Mims ain’t laying down for Rockett, and he gets Your Pal Sal in the ring, and Sal tries (unsuccessfully) to do a senton slam with Mims, before wisely getting Mims to do it to him.  Sal covers for a two count.  Now the  difference in strength is telling with Rockett/Sal, and Sal tries (terribly) to headlock Rockett to no avail.  Tag by Rockett to Slice Boogie and it’s “What’s up punk?”

Speed saves Sal as he hits the ropes and catches Boogie with a huracanrana.  But Boogie is having none of it, and he sends Rinauro to the corner turnbuckle, and now it’s your pal Sal in Peril.  Boogie keeps working on Sal until Rinauro manages a strong tag to Mims, and he’s a Mighty Mims en Fuego.  He even uses Rinauro and rocket launcher to Boogie and Rockett.  Sal even delivers a springboard stunner to Boogie and rolls up for a two count.  Sal backs up to his corner to tag, and Slice Boogie hits a back breaker to Sal, but Mims creeps behind (as he is the legal man) and hits a slam for the pin.

Your Winners via Pinfall:  Big Strong Pals

Back to The Podium and Kyle Davis is with Paola Blaze and Marti Belle are still continuing their fight. Davis tried to explain their match next week, but it devolves into angry shouting in Spanish, and I suddenly feel very triggered.  Davis is hopelessly lost, and throws it back to commentary, where Galli sates next week if the tag partners for Paola win against Allysin Kay, they get a tag title shot down the line. Galli notes that this stipulation has not been seen in NWA but I feel live it’s been overused elsewhere.  If only I could place where…

*Cough*wwe*cough*

Sorry.  My allergies are kicking up.

Before the final interview, it’s time for a vignette on the 1000 days of Reign for Nick Aldis

Davis introduces Nick Aldis, who comes in town with Strictly Business mates Thom Latimer, Chris Adonis, and NWA Women’s Champion, Kamille.  Kyle address the fact at NWA 73 that he punched him and doesn’t appreciate that, so let’s have the former champ speak for himself.

“You have every right to feel that way about it, so let me get that out of the way.  First and foremost, Kyle; sometimes you’re a bit of a corporate stooge, you’re a yes man.  Sometimes you got a bit of a punchable face. But I will admit, I was out of line for doing that and I would like to apologize.”

Davis thinks this is a setup, rightfully so, but Aldis just shakes his hand in apology.  Huh.

“Next up, Billy Corgan; I never thought I would see the day that you and I were standing nose to nose dropping F bombs like there was no tomorrow, but yet there we were [at] NWA 73. But that aside, I think you can agree, and I think everyone in this room can agree, that over the last four years, you and I have built something pretty damn cool. And to quote the G.O.A.T., “We’ve only just begun.” Now, if any of you have taken issue with any of my actions, especially over the last few months, you have every right to feel that way.  But consider this; for 1044 days, I was the linear, legitimate, universally, and historically recognized heavyweight champion of the world for 1044 days. I had to do the media appearances, I had to get up early for the radio shots, the podcasts, the newspapers, the magazines. For 1044 days I had a big old target on this big old back. And for 1044 days, I had to hear what people thought Nick Aldis should do, or people talk about what Billy Corgan should do, or there’s a lot the NWA should do.  Well maybe you should try being a platinum selling rock star, or the world’s champion, and then tell Nick Aldis what he should do.

“For 1044 days I carried the lineage, the legacy and tradition of the National Wrestling Alliance, the greatest brand in the history of this business. I’ve carried the legacy of Dory Funk Jr, Jack Brisco, Terry Funk, Ricky Steamboat, Dusty Rhodes. The greatest of all time, “The Nature Boy” Ric Flair, and the greatest wrestler on God’s green Earth, Harley Race, and I did my damnedest to put my name in that list as someone who belongs, and whether you think I do or don’t, I don’t really give a damn because I’m the greatest World Champion of the modern era, and there’s nothing you can say to change my mind.

“That brings me to you, Trevor. You said that you and me are like oil and water, and that might be the understatement of the century. We may never be on each other’s Christmas card list, and sometimes I may hate your guts and sometimes you may hate my guts. But in this building on this holy ground wrestling at The Chase.  On that night, you were the better man. So now you have the target on your back. Now, you have to carry the pressure. Now you have to get up early to do all the reading, the radio spots, the media interviews.  Now you have to have all the critics, you have to know that every single wrestler in the back, while they may be clapping you when you come through the back [going] “Good job, buddy.”  They…you know, that they have every opportunity to stab you in the back, and they will take you at a moment’s notice. You carry all of that.”

A fan is overheard exclaiming Murdoch has the Ten Pounds of Gold.

“Yes he does, and the Ten Pounds of Gold is the most prestigious championship in the business. And I hope that you know that, Trevor. I hope that you know what you hold in your hands, because trust me when I tell you, I’ve fallen off the horse before, and I know how to get back on. And I have every intention of doing just that, when the opportunity presents itself. So take this opportunity, strap in and enjoy the ride. Because the real work has just begun for you, my friend. And I promise every single one of you, as God as my witness, I will be the real world’s champion again.  Because winning is the family business. Winning is what we do. This is a championship household. And more importantly, this is the NWA. You ain’t seen nothing yet.”

Final Thoughts:

Honestly, this was a three star night.  It was solid but not earth shattering, and show moved along with no loss of momentum.

The extra star, though, rightfully belongs to Nick Aldis as he proves, even without the Ten Pounds of Gold, he is a champion and the face of the modern era NWA.  Little things like that give the NWA more credibility is the reason you, and others, should follow the product.
