CHIKARA founder discusses allegations in video statement

Statement - Mike Quackenbush

The founder of CHIKARA, Mike Quackenbush, has published an emotional video statement on YouTube speaking about the litany of claims made against him and those under his authority.

He begins by discussing a claim that one of his coaches took advantage of a drunken trainee at his home.

“I want to give the benefit of the doubt to the accuser and I believe this allegation the way it is described. I denounce this behaviour,” said Quackenbush.

Quackenbush states that he has investigated the accusation and is note that the coach was fired several months ago.

“Safeguards must be put in place to make sure this never happens again,” he promised.

Quackenbush also talks about a claim that he had a relationship with a trainee. Quackenbush admits that he has twice been in a relationship with a CHIKARA performer.

“Both were consenting adults and both are free to disclose whatever they choose to about that. Their privacy is not mine to revoke. To be clear, I have not been in that kind of relationship with a trainee,” he stated.

Quackenbush also admits he made homophobic remarks in the past.

“I know I have said ignorant things in my past and I have to own that. To the people who are disappointed by that or I have hurt or I have offended, I want you to know I am sorry,” he apologized.

Quackenbush resigned as the chief trainer at the Wrestle Factory. The CHIKARA promotion closed this month due to the allegations. You can watch the full statement above.
