AAA superstar El Hijo del Perro Aguayo, (also known as Perro Aguayo Jr.), has died after an in-ring accident involving former WWE superstar, Rey Mysterio.
According to media reports, at a Tijuana show Friday night, the top rope hit El Hijo in the throat as Rey began the first stage of his 619 finishing move by drop kicking El Hijo. The whiplash caused El Hijo to lose consciousness. Paramedics rushed him to Del Prado hospital, where he later died. El Hijo del Perro Aguayo was 35 years old.
Aguayo had been teaming with Manik against Rey Mysterio Jr. and Xtreme Tiger that night. On Wednesday, El Hijo and Mysterio headlined the “Rey de Reyes” pay-per-view.
A wrestler and promotor, El Hijo was the son of lucha libre legend Perro Aguayo. Beginning his career at just 15 years old, El Hijo teamed with his father and became a mainstay of the lucha libre scene and went on to form the Los Perros del Mal stable with La Familia, La Furia del Norte, Blue Demon Jr., Pierroth Jr. and his sons. The faction also invaded AAA in 2010 teaming with Konnan and his allies. That same year El Hijo had emergency surgery to remove a stomach tumor.
With the entire lucha libre community in mourning, AAA issued a message of condolence: “The grief overwhelms our hearts. Rest in peace, El Hijo del Perro Aguayo.”
