Just one day after being released from World Wrestling Entertainment, Matt Hardy has released a statement regarding his departure from the Fed.
On his website’s message board, Hardy expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support wrestling fans have given him.
“First and foremost, I want to thank everyone for the incredible support that you have shown me in this very hard and difficult time,” Hardy wrote. “I have been kicked down before (although probably not this much, in such a short amount of time), but I always find a way to rebound and make my life a better place.
“Thanks for the outpouring of emotion and letting me know how much you care–I need that now. For all of you who believe in me, cheer for me, and care for me, I am not going away–I will rise above. Thanks and much love…”
Hardy’s release was officially announced on WWE’s website yesterday, along with fellow Raw superstar, Rhyno.
Hardy’s WWE career began as am enhancement worker, along with his brother, Jeff, in the mid-1990s. Soon, the two would become a tag team, gaining the Tag Team Championships under the guidance of Michael Hayes. The brothers would go on to gain several Tag titles and become one of the most popular groups, forming Team Xtreme with Lita. Along the way, Matt held the WWE Hardcore Title as well.
After the brothers split in 2002, Matt would enjoy singles success with his Version One gimmick, which included a run as WWE Cruiserweight Champion. He would eventually end up on Raw, where he was last seen on WWE TV in a feud with Kane over Lita. Matt had been recuperating from a knee injury for several months prior to his release.
