Though it took 12 long years, Jerry Lynn can testify to the fact that good things come to those who wait. Last night at the ECW Anarchy Rulz pay-per-view in his home state of Minnesota, Lynn whipped Justin Credible to win the ECW World Heavyweight Championship. Participating in a string of pro wrestling’s better matches over the last five years, Lynn’s push as champ can be directly attributed to his sensational work inside of the squared circle. ECW recognized the value of Lynn’s in-ring contribution to the promotion and rightfully rewarded him for it on Sunday night.
Heel referee Danny Daniels (substituting for a fallen official) was the fly in Lynn’s ointment physically attacking him and slapping unfair counts throughout the bout until New Jack swatted him…but good. Lynn had Credible beat with his Cradle Piledriver. Daniels refused to count the pinfall screaming insults into Lynn’s face. New Jack’s music sounded spelling doom for Daniels. Trucking plunder with him to the ring, New Jack dented a cookie sheet over Daniels head and then stealing a page from out of the infamous Mr. Pogo’s book, took a scythe-like weapon to his forehead.
Credible caned New Jack from behind driving him into a corner. As Credible turned around Lynn lifted him into a Cradle Piledriver. Lynn came out on the winning end of a series of reversals skewering Credible with his finishing move. The first referee made the count declaring Lynn the new ECW champ.
Face wrestlers such as The Sandman, Roadkill and Tommy Dreamer gathered in the ring to applaud Lynn while the hometown crowd chanted his name. Microphone problems tainted Lynn’s shining moment though. As he tried to address the crowd, Lynn’s mike went dead. Lynn handed it to The Sandman who had no better luck. The production crew was forced to cut to the new Limp Bizkit video sponsored by an Internet music site.
Credible was the lone ECW champ to lose his title at Anarchy Rulz. The Full Blooded Italians (F.B.I.) successfully defended their World Tag Team Championship with another bail-out by Big Sal. In a shocker, Rob Van Dam failed to win back the Television Title which he forfeited back to the company due to an injury.
Heavily favoured going in, RVD was thrown off his game by a Justin Credible cane shot causing him to pause during his Van Terminator finisher. The distraction allowed champion Rhino to pull manager Bill Alphonso in the way so he absorbed the full impact. Rhino gored RVD through a table and piledrived him on a steel chair to hold onto the title. The decision didn’t go over well with the crowd who chanted “Bulls–t!” in unison.
- The next ECW pay-per-view is November To Remember 2000 on November 5th.
