The shocking death of wrestler Brian Pillman casting a pall over the proceedings, the WWF’s Badd Blood broadcast delivered what its title promised. Blood and plenty of it.
In need of a blood transfusion, WWF European Champion – Shawn “Boy Toy” Michaels – barely escaped from his “Hell In A Cell” steel cage grudge match against former WWF Champ, The Undertaker. Chyna, Rick Rude and Hunter-Hearst Helmsley locked out and unable to lend their hired muscle; Michaels relied on the unexpected attack of The Undertaker’s “missing brother”, Cain, to steal a tainted victory.
The WWF thankfully reverting back to the metal fence style cage of old, Hell In A Cell’s gory contest was held within the confines of a padlocked, 15-foot tall, roofed, steel cage surrounding the entire ring. To win, a competitor had to pin or submit his opponent.
Recent savage attacks by Shawn Michaels and the loss of the WWF World Title at Summer Slam fueling his anger, The Man From The Dark Side showed the self-professed “Boy Toy” no mercy from the opening bell. A look of grave concern on his face, Michaels was clotheslined, pummeled and Irish whipped from pillar to post, mounting zero offense in the early moments. The Undertaker’s trademarked Cat Walk Punch sledgehammered the “Arrogant One” down to the canvass. A devastating leg drop got ‘Taker a two count.
< BR> The match moved outside the squared circle. A methodical and smirking Undertaker used the cage to his advantage catapulting Michaels back and forth between the steel cage and a steel post then ramming his head into the metal ring stairs. Finally defending himself, The Boy Toy violently knocked his foe off the ring apron and into the fencing as he came through the ropes.
A spectacular suicide dive through the top and middle ropes sent The Man >From The Dark Side crashing against the metal cage. Michael flew again seconds later, landing a running, flying clothesline off the ring apron catching him in the throat. HBK bashed ‘Taker three times with the metal ring steps before piledriving him on top of them. Returning inside the squared circle, two chair shots to the spine weren’t enough to keep The Man >From The Dark Side down and out. Michaels took his rage out on a “cameraman ” beating him to the point that WWF Commissioner, Sergeant Slaughter, called for the cage door to be opened so the “cameraman’s” hammered carcass could be removed. This of course conveniently allowed the brawl to flow out of the cage altogether where the match’s wild action really started.
Bleeding profusely from the forehead as a result of The Undertaker spiking him into the razor-sharp fencing, HBK, in a desperate effort to flee with his life; climbed up on top of the steel cage structure. The Undertaker followed in hot pursuit. The Boy Toy got the worst of a battle on the cage roof. Back dropping and slamming HBK; The Man From The Dark Side ground his face into the fencing. When Michaels was climbing down, he stomped on his hands causing him to let go and fall right on through an announci ng table. The match looked to be The Undertaker’s as he clocked Michaels in the noggin with a steel chair back inside the cage and gave the signal for The Tombstone Piledriver.
At 27 minutes into the bout, the house lights went out in the Kiel Center. A massive masked figure decked out in red and Paul Bearer walking briskly beside him marched to the ring. Coming after months of hype, Paul Bearer had kept his promise. Cain, The Undertaker’s “brother” had arrived in the WWF. Ripping the cage door off its hinges, Cain confronted The Undertaker face to face in the middle of the ring. Tombstoning a exhausted and confused ‘Taker, Cain left Shawn Michaels to grab the pinfall.
The next WWF pay-per-view is the November 9th Survivor Series originating from The Molson Centre in Montreal.
