Lee Moriarty’s debut gallery exhibition, Balance, is opening at Night Gallery in Los Angeles, with a reception on September 27, from 4–6pm.
In a unique crossover between art and sport, Balance offers a rare glimpse into the lives of wrestlers beyond the ring—expanding conversations around masculinity, identity, and storytelling.
Curated by Adam Abdalla—founder of Orange Crush: The Journal of Art & Wrestling—this marks Moriarty’s first solo exhibition in a gallery setting. In 2024, Moriarty had a solo booth of his paintings at NADA Miami through Orange Crush. Later that year, the Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) acquired one of Moriarty’s works, making him the first active professional wrestler to be collected by a major museum. His painting now lives alongside artists like Judy Chicago and Vija Celmins in their permanent collection.
Moriarty is the current Ring of Honor Pure Champion and has been ranked among the top 50 wrestlers in the world by Pro Wrestling Illustrated. He competes regularly on AEW programming, appearing on TNT, TBS, and HBO Max. Moriarty trained in Mexico under legendary wrestler Negro Navarro, and his artwork reflects the tension between his life in the ring and his creative practice.
Pittsburgh-born Moriarty brings an insider perspective to his intimate portraits of masked luchadors—capturing these larger-than-life figures in moments of quiet solitude.
