TNA Knockout and Toronto native Jody Threat (Gyivicsan) is among a group of veteran Canadian wrestlers ready to give back to the sport with New Wave Wrestling Toronto. Helping Jody Threat lead this endeavor are Gabriel Fuerza, Alexia Nicole, Shane Sabre, Freedom Wallace, and Mark Wheeler – all household names to those who are familiar with the Canadian wrestling landscape.
In a recent interview with SlamWrestling, net, Gyivicsan shared how the idea for a new Toronto wrestling school with a unique approach came about.
“[At] New Wave, our minds are about community first, the person first, and then good pro wrestling training [second]. But at the end of the day, we’re humans,” she said. “After wrestling, we’re still going to be humans.”
“The UK has some of the best wrestling that exists and we think that it’s probably because they take care of their people. People are healthy and can learn properly.” Gyivicsan and her peers were inspired and wanted to bring this approach back home with them after a trip out to the United Kingdom.
For the two-time former TNA Knockout World Tag Team Champion (with Dani Luna), the goal of New Wave Wrestling Toronto is simple. “I would like for it to continue to grow. We’ve just been going, going, going. Really, for it to be seen as a safe place, not just for our students, but a community space for all wrestlers.”
From initial thought to opening the doors for their first class, New Wave saw a quick turnaround and that momentum can only bode well for Ontario wrestling and Canadian wrestling as a whole.

“The universe granted us the things we needed to be able to move forward, and we were able to open up. It’s been seven months already, which is crazy to think about.”
Gyivicsan and the NWWT team want to help foster a deeper connection. Not only between each wrestler and the sport itself, but between each other as well.
“The work we do is very intimate. We’re in a ring together trying to create art. I think that you can create the best art with people you’re comfortable with. I want to be able to create a space for when hard conversations need to be had, those conversations [are possible].”
Being among the most recognizable Ontario female wrestlers, Gyivicsan and Nicole are overseeing a space where the number of female wrestlers will hopefully grow.
“If we look specifically at women, I want women to feel extra safe. At New Wave, we do a women’s night monthly on a Friday. We’re looking to make that [run] weekly and it’s free for any female trainees or workers. We don’t charge because, again, like Alexia and myself came up in this industry. I’m lucky, whereas the industry started to clean up, but it’s still really challenging for women.”
“We want to make sure that we’re creating and fostering a sisterhood.”
For her own career, 2025 has been one of Gyivicsan’s busiest years. Having wrestled something like 80 matches this year, she’s not done yet. “I’ve got a big El Paso loop for TNA coming up. It’s Final Resolution on Friday, December 5. Then we have two days of TV tapings Saturday and Sunday, and my indie calendar is just booked solid. I’m gone every single weekend.”
Between the launch of New Wave Wrestling Toronto, her TNA commitments, as well as staying active on the independents, 2025 has been busy but rewarding in many ways for Gyivicsan.
“Dani Luna and I, when we were Spitfire, we had a hardcore match against Ash [by Elegance] and Heather [by Elegance] with the Personal Concierge in their corner. And although we lost the titles, I thought that was a really fun match.” That match was at Under Siege, May 23rd in Brampton, ON.
“I’ve had a collection of new opponents I’ve never been able to wrestle before. I always love wrestling new people and then being surprised by how well we gel.”
One match from October 19th in Winnipeg stood out to her as well.
“The [WPW Women’s Title] match against Mercedes Mone was a match I feel like I just really needed as a performer. A match to show me that I can hang with the best in the world.”
“Sometimes, wrestling is hard,” she said vulnerably. “It gets in your head and you feel certain ways, even though you know you’re putting in the work. Obviously I’m signed to a TV company. That must mean I’m pretty good. But being able to get in there with someone like Mercedes Mone and to match her energy and feel really good? I did not feel out of my element.”
Regardless of the moment or her opponent in the ring, the Wild Child isn’t overwhelmed by the work load 2025 has brought her way just yet. “My only weekend off is the last weekend in December, and I’m going to keep it off because I might die if I don’t. It’s so wild.”
Until then, expect to see a lot of Gyivicsan. Including helping coach and train a class of wrestlers looking to make their names known. On November 30th, class will be in session.
