Journeyman Journal: Like, subscribe and suplex

Greetings and salutations we are back once again with another entry into the Journeyman’s Journal. This week was a light week, as I only had one title defense on the books, and it was fairly close to home — in Gallatin, Tenn., for FXE Crush Live!

FXE Wrestling’s Crush Live events serve as a showcase for the FXE Wrestling Academy, a professional wrestling school located in Hendersonville, Tenn., and operated by AJ Gallant.

Past opponents such as Tevon Jordyn, Colby Carter, and Majestic are alumni of the FXE Academy, and this will be my first Crunch Live event.

The production in the Gallatin Civic Center was awesome! FXE providers their students with quite the stage to debut on, and per conversations, they are not done yet! FXE believes in investing in the product, so I cannot wait to see what future events have to offer regarding production.

My opponent for the evening is Brandon Davis, or BD, as he is known. While fairly new to wrestling, this is not Brandon‘s first foray into entertainment. Outside of the ring, Brandon is the host of the successful Phase Zero podcast, as well as a a YouTuber and all around social media influencer — focusing on nerd culture. You can trust that I didn’t shy away from mentioning his other job in the build-up for the match.

Within wrestling, Brandon has maybe a dozen matches under his belt. This evening, I took it upon myself to drag Brandon into the deep water to see if he would sink or swim, and I am happy to report that Brandon carried his weight, took his lumps, and kept going.

I found myself in an unusual situation from the beginning of the match. While Brandon has a lot of notoriety on social media, he was in my backyard. I have been wrestling in the area for nearly two decades. Within the wrestling business, Brandon is a relative unknown. That said, I was caught off guard at the surprising number of cheers I received upon my entrance. By the end of the match, however, the crowd would be firmly behind Brandon.

I drug Brandon around the ring by his nose, pulled by his hair, cross-faced him, sucker punched him, and even suplexed him onto the hardwood gym floor. To say Brandon earned every cheer would probably be an understatement. You would have to ask him if the audience’s respect was worth the price paid.

In all sincerity, Brandon has a lot of potential. He’s a good-looking young man with good size and impressive athleticism. Add in his comfort performing on camera and his built-in following, I feel it is really up to Brandon with how far he could take it. In wrestling, you have to put a lot in to get anything out, and even then sometimes you don’t get to where you want to be. Brandon has a built-in leg up. I hope he takes advantage of it, if he wants it.

I had a short wrestling week this week. That said, this is the first time since before the holidays that I’ve felt like myself. There is no better time to get back in the groove, as next week I’m back at it, and as the year progresses, I’ve got some fun stuff on the horizon, including NWA Powerrr Tapings in Tampa.
