NXT rolls out its fourth Pay-per-View, NXT R-Evolution, tonight. Which leads to many questions. Is it really a PPV? It should be called a (very) special episode of NXT; second, is it called Revolution or R Evolution, it doesn’t makes sense. What does the R stand for then? But the most important question is, can Adrian Neville successfully defend his NXT title from Sami Zayn? Oh, and Zayn has gone on record that if he loses, he will walk away from NXT.

On the pre-show, hosted by Renee Young, who confirms the show is R-Evolution, NXT superstar Corey Graves drops a huge bomb. Graves announces he is retiring from in-ring competition due to health issues, but he will be joining the announce team tonight.

Kevin Owens, formerly knows as Kevin Steen, makes his NXT debut to kick off the show.

Match #1 – Kevin Owens vs. CJ Parker

Owens comes out firing with two clotheslines in the corner. He rips apart Parker’s protest fight as the crowd modifies his chants to, “Kill, Owens Kill!”. Owens knocks Parker from the ring and then launches himself over the top rope to take out Parker. The action returns to the ring, where Parker is able to mount some offense. Parker misses a splash and the Owens catches a big boot, but can’t avoid the palm strike. Owens kicks out after two. Owens explodes out of the corner with a lariat and then realizes he has been busted open. Owens delivers a pop up power bomb to Parker and covers to get the pin.

Match #2 – The Lucha Dragons (Sin Cara and Kalisto) (Champions) vs. The Vaudevillians (Aiden English and Simon Gotch) (Challengers) – NXT Tag Team Championship Match

Sin Cara and Gotch start things off and Sin Cara goes for an early pinfall, but Gotch kicks out. Kalisto tags in and Gotch is double teamed with a wheel barrel senton. Quick tags are made, allowing Sin Cara to connect with a drop kick and follow with a powerbomb. Gotch kicks out. English is bumped off the apron, but makes the tag, so he yanks Cara out of the ring. Sin Cara gets doubled teamed, allowing Gotch to lock in head lock. English knocks Cara out of the ring and the sweeps Kalisto’s leg ont eh apron. Gotch prevents Sin Cara from making the tag with a back suplex. Sin Cara fights his way off the turnbuckle and makes the hot tag. Kalisto catches English with a spring board kick as Sin Cara cuts Gotch off with a cross body. The Lucha Dragons fly over the top rope to take out English on the floor. Gotch pushed his partner into the Dragons and tries to steal a win by tosses Kalisto into the ring. Kalisto counters Gotch’s pin and hits the Salida del Sol to get the pin.

Match #3 – Tye Dillinger vs. Baron Corbin

The crowd starts the count to see how long it takes Corbin to finish off Dillinger. NXT superstar Bull Dempsey watches from the front row as Corbin delivers the End of Days to get the pin.

Match #4 – The Ascension (Konnor and Victor) vs. Hideo Itami and Finn Balor

Balor comes out with his upper torso and neck and face painted with giant teeth. It’s insane. Before the bell, Itami and Balor attack with drop kicks into the corner and the Ascension regroup outside the ring. Itami opens the match with a drop kick. Konnor responds with a flap jack. Victor tags in, preventing Itami from making a tag and then knocks Balor off the apron. Victor stomps away at Itami in the heel corner. Itami fights back, but is shut down with a knee to the mid section. The Ascension keeps Itami in their corner to deliver a beating. Victor applies a chin lock. Itami breaks the hold, but still can’t get the tag. Konnor misses a charge in the corner and eats the ring post. Konnor hits the floor, but is able to knock Balor off the apron, not allowing Itami to make the tag. Itami catches Victor with a kick and is finally able to make the tag. Balor cleans house, but runs into a elbow from Victor. An enziguri sends Victor to the floor and Balor takes out The Ascension with a plancha over the top rope.

Back in the ring, Balor hits a reverse brain buster, but Konnor is able to break the pin fall. The Ascension has Balor double teamed, but Itami is able to pull Konnor out of the ring. Balor connects with the Pele kick. Konnor rolls back into the ring, allowing Itami and Balor to hit dual diving foot stomps off the top rope. Balor covers Victor for the win.

Roman Reigns joins Renee Young backstage and asks him about winning Superstar of the Year. Roman says he is here to see the future, but he wants to make history as the first NXT alum to win the WWE Heavyweight Title.

Match #5 – Charlotte (Champion) vs. Sasha Banks (Challenger) – NXT Women’s Title Match

Sasha opens the match by tossing t-shirt in Charlotte’s face. The champ responds with a Thesz press and mounted punches. Sasha and Charlotte trade chops until the champ takes control. Sasha rolls out of the ring and Charlotte follows. Sasha catches her coming back into the ring and then tosses her into the ring steps. Sasha makes a cover back in the ring, but the champ is able to kick out. Sasha drops both knees into Charlotte as she was suspended on the middle rope in the corner. Charlotte responds with a chinbreaker, but Sasha counters into the Bankrupt. Charlotte powers out of the hold, driving Banks into the corner. Sasha pulls Charlotte down by her hair and applies a figure four headlock. Charlotte counters with an electric chair. Both women hit the mat, Sasha gets to her feet first, but Charlotte is able to block a punch and counters with a forearm. Banks knocks Charlotte out of the ring and dives through the ropes to take her out.

The champ is rolled back into the ring, but Sasha still can’t get the pin. Charlotte connects with a spear that flips Banks. A drop toe hold sends the champ into the middle turnbuckle. Sasha looks for the Bank Statement, but Charlotte covers. Sasha kicks out. Charlotte tosses Banks across the ring and climbs the turnbuckle. Sasha rolls away, but Charlotte lands on her feet and immediately nails a senton. Sasha fights back and looks for a superplex. Charlotte blocks it, sending Sasha to the mat. Charlotte is able to grab Banks and hit Natural Selection from the top turnbuckle. Charlotte covers to get the win.

Match #6 – Adrian Neville (Champion) vs. Sami Zayn (Challenger) – NXT Championship

Neville backs away from Zayn, but strikes quickly and gets him into a headlock. He moves to an armbar and the two trade holds in the middle of the ring. Zayn scores a takedown with an arm drag. Neville backs off from a test of strength and goes back to a mat wrestling game. Neville flips to his feet after another arm drag and waves his finger at Zayn.

Neville runs into a tilt-a-whirl back breaker and rolls out of the ring. Zayn hits a spring board moonsault on Neville on the outside. The champ takes his time getting back in to the ring, but Zayn still connects with a drop kick. Neville applies a rear chin lock. Zayn breaks the hold only to get caught with an uppercut. The champ follows with knee drop. Neville goes to the top turnbuckle and connects with a missile drop kick. Out of no where, Zayn hits a lariat and follows with a drop kick. Neville rolls out of the ring, but quickly re-enters and uses a head scissors to send Zayn to the outside. Neville charges Zayn coming back into the ring. Zayn counters with a back drop and follows with a suicide dive to takeout Neville. Zayn hits cross body from the top, but Neville is able to kick out. Zayn catches Neville on his shoulders and drops him with a sit down power bomb. Neville barely kicks out in the time.

Zayn runs into the big boot, allowing Neville to hit German suplex and make the pin. Zayn is able to kick out. Neville hits a sit down power bomb, but Zayn kicks out. Neville and Zayn trade punches in the center of the ring. Zayn fires off the ropes with a clothesline. Neville side steps a kick and goes up top. The champ goes for the Red Arrow, a corkscrew shooting star press, but Zayn gets his knees up. Zayn immediately locks in the Koji Clutch. Neville and Zayn trade reversals and Neville kicks out onto the ref. Zayn checks on the ref and turns into a super kick. Neville covers, but Zayn kicks out. Neville and Zayn trade forearm shots and both men are staggered. Zayn hits two German suplexes and then throws Neville over his head. Neville rolls to the floor. Zayn leaves the ring and dives through the ropes in the corner and hitting Neville with a DDT. In the ring, Zayn connects with the Helluva Kick, but Neville is able to pull the ref in front of him to partially black it. Neville grabs the NXT belt, but Zayn kicks him in the face. The fans pleads with Zayn not to use the belt, he picks it up, but he can’t pull the trigger. Zayn turns his back on Neville, who pops to his feet and nearly gets a roll up pin. Zayn hits a northern might suplex and follows with a Helluva Kick to Neville. Zayn covers and finally gets the pin.

Winner via pinfall and new NXT Champion: Sami Zayn

Zayn stands tall in the ring with the NXT Title before falling to his knees. The NXT locker room empties to celebrate with Sami in the ring. Zayn offers his hand to Neville, who instead embraces his former friend.

The show appears to be over with Zayn and Owens sharing a moment at ringside Owens raises Zayn’s hand, but then lays him out. Owens power bombs him into the apron and then shoves William Regal on the way back up the ramp.
